“On three things the world is sustained: On Torah, On Worship and
On Acts of Kindness.” - Simon the Just
In the spirit of Simon the Just, the mission of the HCRJ Pillars Campaign
is to allow HCRJ to grow based on Three Pillars of Support: Education,
Worship, and Community (Acts of Kindness). These pillars represent the
primary services provided by HCRJ.
The HCRJ Pillars Campaign is now in full swing. Planning for this huge
project started more than three years ago under the dedicated
leadership of the HCRJ Long Range Planning Committee: Lee Herman,
Stuart Goldman, Jonathan Siegel, Lori Farris and Jen Pardee. In 2011,
the leadership of the project transitioned to Bruce Shelby who is
managing the final design and construction phases. Construction is
scheduled for completion by the end of August 2012.
The renovations in the sanctuary and existing social hall will result in a
40% increase in the size of the current social hall, new seat covers on all
pews, enlarged pulpit area, new carpet in the sanctuary and pulpit,
remodeled offices, new and upgraded HVAC.
The final plan features a new 8,500 square foot, 2-story education
building, a 1000 square foot enclosed atrium/foyer that opens into the
new building and the two existing buildings, major renovations in the
sanctuary and current social hall, and a new patio area.
The new building will have a large multi-purpose space, large kitchen,
boardroom and bathrooms on the first floor, and five classrooms on the
second floor, an elevator and storage, equipment, and a new fire
sprinkler throughout the entire building (old and new).
The project also includes renovations in the current religious school
building, resurfacing the back parking lot with concrete, and new
landscaping.
When the project is finished this August, our new classrooms, social
space, atrium, patio and kitchen will provide much needed new space for
our growing congregation and religious school, and all the dynamic
ongoing and planned programming for our members of all ages.

The construction and renovation
costs are in line with the budget
presented to the congregation
at the November 2011 meeting.
And, thanks to the generosity of
our congregation community,
our Pillars fundraising campaign
has raised $2,505,000, just shy
of our $2,700,000 goal. If you
