Children as young as 4 may join our PK Religious School class. During the fall of their Kindergarten year, they participate in a Consecration ceremony. Consecration marks the beginning of a child’s formal Jewish education. At HCRJ, we celebrate Consecration on the Sabbath closest to Simchat Torah, the holiday in which we finish Torah reading the fifth book of the Torah, Deuteronomy, D’varim, and start over at the beginning of Genesis, B’reishit.
During Consecration, children recite the Sh’ma, sing songs they have learned at Religious School, receive special blessings from the Rabbi and are each given a miniature Torah.
