Bridge to the Balkans: A Jewish Shelter from the Storm Presentation with Cantor Robyn Helzner

November 15, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism, Temple Mount Sinai in El Paso and Temple Solel in Paradise Valley, Arizona are excited to be partnering on another exciting program with Cantor Robyn Helzner! On Sunday, November 15 at 4pm, Cantor Helzner will present, “Bridge to the Balkans: A Jewish Shelter from the Storm” for our communities on Zoom!

Discover the Balkans – a little known oasis of Jewish life! Cantor Helzner introduces this region of spectacular beauty and historic heartbreak through captivating stories, expressive Ladino and Yiddish songs, compelling video and striking images. Jews expelled from Spain and Portugal found safe haven in the cities of Dubrovnik, Split and Sarajevo. The later arrival of Ashkenazi Jews created a unique meeting place between the cultures of east and west.

A stunning vocalist and vivid storyteller, Robyn Helzner radiates a passion for Jewish music and culture. Her concerts and recordings are acclaimed worldwide. She also leads Jewish Heritage Tours to the Balkans, Spain, China and Morocco. Please RSVP to Justin at 713-782-4162 or Justin@hcrj.org.
