Film Screening of A Tale of Love and Darkness at The Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Fair

November 12, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join HCRJ’s Book Club for a film screening of A Tale of Love and Darkness at the 44th Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Fair at the Jewish Community Center.  In this film, Natalie Portman makes her directorial debut in her extraordinary adaptation of Amos Oz’s bestselling memoir. Multilayered, touching, and beautifully rendered, the film takes the viewer into a fleeting moment in Israeli history through a deeply personal lens.  The film depicts the story of Amos Oz’s youth, set against the backdrop of the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel. The film details the young man’s relationship with his mother and his beginnings as a writer, while looking at what happens when the stories we tell become the stories we live.

As the film is based on a memoir, we have the opportunity to read the book. Then, on November 12, we will have dinner at Old Hickory Inn with a book discussion before heading over to the JCC to see the film.  As part of our community partnership, HCRJ receives 10 complimentary tickets to the film and we can provide a discounted group ticket rate if we need more than 10 tickets. If you would like to claim any of these tickets, please contact Justin in the temple office at 713-782-4162 or admin@hcrj.org.
