High Holy Days 2024 – Frequently Asked Questions

 

Do I need a ticket for the High Holy Days?

Tickets are needed for four High Holy Days services: Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah Morning Service, Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur Morning Service. Tickets will be sent to all members in good standing. Members in good standing are: those who have paid in full (1) the previous fiscal year’s (’23-’24) membership dues, building fund & security fee, and (2) the first quarter of this fiscal year’s (’24-’25) membership dues, building fund & security fee.

Tickets are not needed for other in-person Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. A ticket is also not needed if you are watching the streamed service.

How do I access streamed services?

Services can be streamed on the HCRJ website here. We will also email this streaming page link to the congregation the week prior to the holidays.

Do I have to watch services live if I am streaming?

No, you do not have to watch services live.  All services will be archived and can be watched after the fact.

How can I purchase a jar of honey?

Will there be a break fast?

Following Yom Kippur services, HCRJ will be hosting a light bite bagel reception to break the fast.

I lost a loved one in the last year. How do I have their name read during the Yizkor/Memorial service?

During the Yizkor/Memorial service, Rabbi Gross will read aloud the names of those who have passed away in the last year. To ensure your loved ones name is included, please email Beth at Beth@hcrj.org.

Can I purchase tickets for a guest?

A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase to the general public. If you would like to purchase a ticket, please contact the temple office at 713-782-4162.

Can members request extra tickets for family members?

Members in good standing may request tickets for dependent children, grown children visiting from out of town and out-of- town houseguests at no additional cost (a donation is appreciated but not required). There is a cost to receive a ticket for in town family members and other guests. Please contact the temple office at 713-782-4162 to purchase tickets.

The following guests who have made arrangements for tickets in advance of High Holy Days may do so at no cost:

  • Out-of-town patients from local hospitals and their immediate families
  • College students
  • Active military personnel
  • Members in good standing from congregations outside of Houston (with a letter from their congregation)

  • Religious School
