From Russia with Love – Shabbat Dinner & Service

March 20, 2015 by HCRJ Web Admin Leave a Comment

A Got Shabbat from the Pale Settlement

Russian Dinner at 6:00 PM (Dinner is full)
Shabbat Services at 7:15

The shtetl of Eastern Europe was the epicenter of a world which was isolated in time and space. As a result, it became a crucible for Jewish culture, literature and music.

Join us Friday night, March 20, as we will celebrate the cultural heritage of the Jews of the Pale Settlements.

All are welcome to join us at 7:15 Friday nights for Shabbat Services. You do not need to be a member to join us in prayer as we welcome the Sabbath bride. Immediately following services, we gather together at the oneg (joy) for cookies and conversation.

HCRJ uses the modernized edition of the Union Prayer Book. This prayer book contains extensive transliteration of most of the Hebrew prayers, thereby enabling those who do not read Hebrew to participate in the liturgy. We encourage you to discover within its pages a fresh approach and a return to the ideals of Reform Judaism.

Annual Jewish / Muslim Christmas Program

December 24, 2014 by HCRJ Web Admin Leave a Comment

Every year we join with our Muslim Friends to spend some time together on Christmas Eve.

We learn.  We laugh.  We get to know each other’s faith and each other as individuals.

Last year we welcomed 150 Jews, Muslims and Christians to our annual Jewish/Muslim Christmas program.  Our success was partially due to the fact that we included a movie (a very Jewish thing to do on Christmas Eve).

Join us for the Fifth Annual Jewish/Muslim Christamas as we gather to watch the short PBS movie entitled, Enemy of the Reich: The Noor Inayat Khan Story

This movie is a moving account of a young Muslim woman who sacrificed her life to combat the brutal domination of Nazi Germany.  In a world where tensions between Judaism and Islam can be highly strained, this movie challenges all of us to stand up for what is right and just.

Please Dress Modestly

Broadway and Beyond on Bering

November 30, 2014 by HCRJ Web Admin Leave a Comment

Music is the voice of our souls and Broadway is its nesting place. Broadway music has a special place in the hearts of Americans and it’s coming to our HCRJ!

On November 30 at 3:00 PM in the HCRJ sanctuary, Cantor Vadim Tunitsky will be joined by fabulous soprano  Leigh Shipman, pianist Yanina Didyck and third grade vocalist Sarah McKinley.

This amazing ensemble  will present an unforgettable program of your favorite Broadway songs. The music from “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Le Miserable”, “The Sounds of Music” and much more will touch your souls again and bring back unforgettable emotions which are the very fabric of our beings!

Following the performance, Cantor Tunitsky will be selling and autographing his new book The Strings of our Soul. In this book, Cantor Tunitsky tells his life story, and reflects on the power of the human spirit to overcome, persevere, thrive, and heal through the power of human kindness.

He writes, “this book is about our God-given gifts, the strings of our soul, that often remain hidden unless someone comes along and touches them.  That touch changes our lives and the lives of the people around us forever.  With the sound of the strings, our souls sing a beautiful song.”

The cost of the book is $19.95.  Irene Sheytman, the artist featured in this inspiring book, will be present to display her artwork at an exhibition and reception.

The admission to the concert is a bag of non-perishable food to feed the hungry in our community.
